Part-Time Community Organizer Position in Springfield, IL Region

Faith Coalition for the Common Good seeks to fill a part time organizing position with an ambitious and hard-working Community Organizer who will be responsible for helping to expand a powerful faith and value-based organization in the Springfield, IL region. This temporary part time position will focus on organizing and educating hard to count communities about the importance of completing the 2020 US Census form. This position is 20 hours per week through June 2020. It could potentially turn into a full time position.
Organizing duties will include, collaboration with team leaders; cutting turf; drafting surveys; record keeping; outreach to member and other social service agencies; canvassing with a team; travel within Springfield, to Beardstown, Jacksonville, Decatur, and surrounding communities. Computer skills and transportation are required.
Work hours are flexible depending upon the needs of Faith Coalition and the availability of the organizer.
We seek someone with experience working with communities, who has self-confidence in working in diverse environments; who seeks the opportunity to engage in social justice work; is committed to the development of community leadership; and, has a history of working well with others. Some post high school education or training is preferred.

The salary is competitive and based on experience. The position includes the opportunity to be trained and coached in the art of community organizing within the Gamaliel Network.
